Adam Dorrel introduced as the head football coach at UCO Wednesday.

Wednesday afternoon, in the Constitution Hall at the Nigh University Center, the University of Central Oklahoma introduced Adam Dorrel as the next head football coach after the recent resignation of Nick Bobeck.

It was apparent that hiring a new coach would happen sooner than later after the rest of Bobeck’s staff announced they would move on last week.

One of those staff members happened to be Dustin Landry, the previous defensive coordinator for the Bronchos. Landry sent a group text message to some of his players, letting them know he would not be returning next season.

Micaiah Noel shared his thoughts on Landry leaving,

“I understand it’s a business — as a coach, you have to move accordingly to the best possible situation for yourself and your family.”

When asked about Bobeck and how he was as a coach, Noel stated that he was very mindful of his player’s mental health and wanted them to succeed above anything else on the field.

Noel expressed his excitement and said he was ready to start work with Dorrel.

In looking at Dorrel’s resume, he brings a change of pace to the team as opposed to Bobeck, as he has more championships than his predecessor. Dorell has three NCAA Division II championships with Northwest Missouri State from when he was the head coach between 2011–2016. He has a 95–40 overall record. In contrast, Bobeck had a 47–54 record with one National Junior College Athletic Association championship in 2010 with Navarro College, a JUCO 60 miles south of Dallas.

Northwest Missouri State is in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association, which happens to be the same conference as UCO. Dorrel successfully took his teams to 15–0 records and went on a 30-game win streak in this conference before leaving for Abilene Christian University in 2017.

After going 5–6 in his 2021 season at ACU, Dorrel was relieved of his coaching duties. Although his overall record was 19–32 at ACU, he will look to replicate his past success by returning to a conference he has dominated in years past.
